At times like this, we shout!

The KL ShoutOut Meet! Well, not exactly at KL, but that's what we shouters call it. Well, it was fun meeting up with so many shouters and bloggers. I'm looking forward to the next one! And yeah, I might even go to Penang to join them in some fun. Any KL people want to come along? lol~

We first had a karaoke session at Sunway Pyramid's Redbox.

Even Shaz and smashpOp joined us. And my pose err, never mind.

Wendy from Ipoh, studying at Penang.

And then we decided to go somewhere else for dinner and to hang out. After spending hours thinking, some decided to go home, some had other plans going on, and the rest headed to Damansara. And Andulu joined us, but didn't take any photo.

It's water. Machine-gunned by the fountain. Nice, no?

IMG_1136
I like water.

Then after that, they left for The Sanctuary. Me? I went home. Somehow, clubbing is not my kind of activity. All the smoke and alcohol. But the next day, before they return to Penang, they came down to Klang to claim their Bah-Kut-Teh from me. And Benghan joined!

The score of my music~

This is a true story, based on the history of a boy, who had always been mediocre in everything.

IMG_0874 (360 x 480)
The story of a boy

He was born in 1987, in a land called Malaysia. His first two years were spent like any other kids, he learned how to talk, learned how to crawl, and then walk. And by 3 years old, he was already attending classes at a kindergarten. Unlike others, he cried whenever he lost sight of his mother. That made his mother really frustrated because she had to accompany him until his classes end. And so, the third year of the boy was consisted of 1+1=2, biscuits in strawberry jam and Milo, and a lot of tears.

When he finally reached four years old, his sister, only at age two, joined the same kindergarten. And so he was convinced that it’s pointless to cry, mommy is not going to stay by his side all the time. He did what he had to, in fact, better than any other kids. He’s all natural, he never had to study. He spent a lot of his time reading story books and listening to classical music. And when his parents realized his musical talent, they brought him to the music school. They loved music and wanted him to learn more about it. Being a music lover himself, the boy joined the music school without second thoughts.

Years gone by, the boy reached age seven. That’s the age when kids must join a primary school and study for real. He learned a lot, made new friends, played all kinds of games and sports, and like any other kid, got punished for silly mistakes. And he was all average. No one noticed him, no one really talked about him. Even if they did, it was all bad stuff, like how stingy a person he was. But was he? No. They wanted to start a party at his house, he refused, but that’s because his parents wouldn’t allow it. Simple things like this caused him his loneliness. He began to hate himself for every minor mistake he made. His studies deteriorated. Teachers wonder why and called up his house, but could only talk to his grandmother because his parents were working. And so, his grandmother took charge of things, went to the school to see the principal and teachers, found this boy a tuition teacher, and things became good again.

On the final year in primary schools, the big exam was the most feared by all students. Everyone studied, but still played. The boy did his homework, played his games and sports, and even brought Digimon to school. And when the day finally came, he gave them his best. But the school teachers had to find out the answers to the questions and gave most students a nightmare, thinking they couldn’t make it, especially the boy. He was all down, but he had to put a smile on his face. And when the results came, he was shocked. In fact, everyone including the teachers was shocked. How could it be? He was number two for the whole of that years’ batch. He almost cried in front of the whole class.

And the time moves on, he’s already in secondary school. Due to his very small size, he was afraid of most of the bigger students, so he stuck with his old-time friends, who came with him from the same primary school. And when the homework became heavy, he couldn’t carry too many things, he dropped his music lesson. As time goes by, he learned that everyone wants to be a friend. Who would want enemies? So he started knowing more people, and participated in more activities. Life changed for the better. People bring more people, he started knowing people from outside the school, went to tuition with a whole bunch of other students, learned what an internet cafĂ© is, hung out with friends during the weekend, and when girls came into the picture, relationships sparked.

Things became more and more complicated. Other people’s problem became his problem because he was being too helpful. That’s when he thought that he should always sit on the fence, to give only logical or rational responses, but stuff like this can’t always work, especially since it’s about relationships. As for himself, well, he was always alone because of his shyness. He’s the quiet guy when he’s in a group of people. He knew nothing about socializing with people. But his friends were good enough to help him. Teachers saw his problem and gave him more opportunities to go outside of the school, by letting him handle certain jobs, allowing him to participate in various events and so on. That’s when he realized his interest in organizing events. He joined the board of directors in the Interact Club in his school, participated in drama, helped in the Chinese Language Society’s event, was an emcee in many events, took part in a charity held by English Language Society, and he enjoyed all those.

When secondary school days were ending, everyone scattered. Some went to work, others went to further their studies, and life once again changed. The boy entered a new society, met more people, different people. With nothing much to do, and no one to hang out with, he started working on his music again. And when he talked to his long-lost friend on-line, he was introduced to this thing called Blogger, and he now blogs.

Surely, you’d realize who that boy is. And, I think that’s it, for now.

Last of Chirps

Bird photos! The little bird has grown slightly bigger. You won't notice, though. lol~

I didn't think a little bird will ever return to its birthplace. Maybe it was around my garden all the while? I can tell it's the baby bird, because... It is lah~ lol~ Oh well, It's because it's difference from its parents and there aren't any other birds around besides pigeons, crows, sparrows, swallows and bats. Yeah bats. Okay so they're not part of the bird family, but they do fly, no? I'll try taking a photo of bats and post it up.

So, it was early in the morning. I arrived home after sending my sister to her Academy, and heard familiar chirps. Naturally, I looked around, and spotted the bird by following the noise of its chirping.

IMG_0857_renamed_3747
Between bars

IMG_0858_renamed_13134
Why is it always closing its eyes?

And so I decided to get closer. I thought it’d be more difficult to get close to it, because it’s no longer a baby bird. But strangely, it didn’t try and leave when I got close to it. Maybe it’s because of the previous encounter? lol~ That’s good, and bad. It’s good because I can take photos easily, but bad because if it thinks that all human are friendly, then it’s in a lot of danger.

IMG_0859_renamed_22808
No sign of fear, unlike its parents, which are both extremely cautious.

IMG_0860_renamed_25678
It looked at me, because of the noise my camera made.

That should be the last of the birds. I won’t be seeing them anymore, unless if they really like my garden, or my garden’s feng-shui freaking good. lol~

E-mail Etiquette

How important is your e-mail to you? To me, well, it’s more than just for convenience. I check my e-mail account on a daily basis. Almost everyone has an e-mail account. And by that, I’m sure that most people will agree to me that sometimes, some e-mails are just difficult to read or understand, no? I receive a lot of badly composed e-mails everyday, and so I thought, I should find out about e-mail etiquette and talk about it.

I looked around, searched on the internet, dug through my mountain of books, and found something which I think is rather good.

The importance of e-mail etiquette (taken from the last page of January-March 2007 issue, SriPentas magazine. I got it from my visit to err, SriPentas).

By Dawn M. Jeremiah

“E-mail etiquette refers to a set of do’s and don’ts that are recommended by business and communication experts in response to the growing concern that people are not using their e-mail effectively or appropriately.”
(Flynn & Flynn, 2006)

Why do we need e-mail etiquette?
Using proper e-mail language conveys a professional image. E-mails that get to the point are much more effective. It can also protect your company from lawsuits from badly composed e-mails.

Meaningful subjects
Try to use a subject that is meaningful to the recipient as well as yourself. For instance, when requesting for information. It is better to mention the subject matter and what it is pertaining to, e.g. ‘Thursday Nite Live: List of Invitees’ rather than just ‘TNL’.

Proper spelling, grammar and punctuation
Improper spelling, grammar and punctuation give a bad impression of your company. It is also important for conveying the message properly. If your program has spell checking, why not use it?

Proper structure and layout
Reading from a screen is more difficult than reading from paper. Use short paragraphs and blank lines between paragraphs. When making points, number them or mark each point separately.

Threads
Once you send that first e-mail, you will probably get a response. The wrong way to reply to that response is by starting a new e-mail message. This breaks the link (called a ‘thread’), making it difficult for readers to follow the sequence of messages, especially after several exchanges. This is an even larger problem if several people are replying to the same message. The correct thing to do is to reply to the original message (use “Reply to All” if there are many recipients).

Signatures
Try to avoid abbreviated names or numbers. Do include your e-mail address. It is best to include your title and company name in the signature.

Swift answers
Each customer e-mail should be replied to within at least 24 hours. If you’re busy, just send an e-mail back saying that you have received it and you will get back to them.

Personal e-mails
Personal e-mails sent from the office are regarded as official company communications regardless of content and could possibly expose you and your company to unnecessary risk. Scary, huh?

Chain letters
Do not forward chain letters. Just delete them when you get them.

Set meetings in advance
Don’t assume people will read an e-mail the minute they get it. Remember, e-mail is not designed for immediacy (that’s why you have a telephone), it’s designed for convenience.

You may not be working in a company, but heck, e-mail etiquette is as important as any other kinds of etiquette, no? So please, stop sending me chain letters already for God’s sake! And well, the ‘thread’ thing is important, too. I’ve been communicating via e-mail for quite some time now, and I realized how some people like to delete the previously written message so the e-mail looked clean. Now, that’s a bad idea. Why? Because I can’t always remember everything from the older messages, can I?

Food for rats??

Well, my sister's been learning how to cook at some academy for almost 2 weeks already, and she took a few photos of her masterpiece and some other stuff she cooked. Sorry about the photo quality, though. She used her hand phone camera. Also, her photo-taking skill is quite bad. (As far as I know lah~)

And mom, dad, if you see this post, well basically, this is what Sally's been learning lah~ Haha~ Let us all hope that she learns how to cook some real good food, and then we can start a restaurant or something. Haha~ Oh, and those dark orange words are actually links, okay?

Pancake
Pancakes

This is probably the easiest to cook. Looks rather tasteless to me, though. Hmmm~ Should have taken the photo after she added the syrup. But anyway, pancakes are not my kind of food.

Fettuccini with Bechamel Sauce
Fettuccine with Bechamel Sauce

Fettucine, some pasta, obviously. Bechamel Sauce? Hmmm~ I should try.

Braise Cabbage
Braise Cabbage

Cabbage? Braised? My sister said that this one's tasteless because it's only there for the looks.

Lamb Chop with Chicken
A 4 in 1 dish?

Uh huh~ But that Braise-Cabbage-thingy is only there for looks, no? Well, the other three are Chicken with Mushroom Sauce, Chicken with Black Pepper Sauce and Lamb Chop, without any sauce, I think. Which is which? I'm sure you can tell.

Roast BBQ Chicken
Roast Barbecue Chicken

That's how she named the dish. Roast Barbecue Chicken. Hmmm~ I think she meant Roast Chicken with Barbecue Sauce. And well, she'll ignore me if I try and correct her language mistakes. I tried, not once, but twice.

Lasagna
Lasagna, also Lasagne.

Lasagna! My favorite! Woolala~ But not this one, because it looks pretty plain. My sister said it looks boring because they used Ratatouille's ingredients.

Ratatouille
Ratatouille?

No, not this Ratatouille, I mean the real Ratatouille. But the movie is quite nice, I know because I've watched it already. I don't know when is the movie showing in Malaysia, though.

Alright, off I go!
